Expensive lawyers are not always the best solutions to your problem in Thailand. Most of the time local knowledge, police friends and a local lawyer is a much better solution.
To move down to Thailand and think you will just open a posh restaurant in a small place like Koh Samui with out getting ripped off is pretty naive. The small islands are full with mafia figures and everybody knows everybody.
You will never own everything since you always need silent partners in your company in Thailand and the best way is if they do not know you each other or local.
A group of Swedes have just lost millions of THB when they got cheated by their local partner or so they say. To be sure not to be cheated they hired Baker & McKenzie a very expensive International law firm with a branch in Bangkok.
Many big companies are using them in Thailand to get the best help possible but the rates starts from 5000 THB an hour and in this case i think it a bit overkill.
The group tried to sue Baker & McKenzie in a Swedish court for not doing enough to protect them in Thailand but they lost their case there as well.
