Some people that are new to Thailand have asked me what happen last night. I was the night of Loy Kratong. A big festival in Thailand that people celebrates every year when the moon is full. If you seen the floats in the Thai air ways advertising movies, that is Loy Kratong.

Personal Thailand strongly advice you to skip this full moon party. If you are already on the way or there already you know that some streets are filled with 70 cm of water.

This time of year people get stranded on Samui and other Island in South Thailand and accidents happen with speed boats when they try to go out in strong winds.

If possible avoid Samui right now and wait a week or so to the water have gone down. The flooding has been worse every year because people cut down the threes on the hills to make house, off course against the law.

Now it has happened with Loy Kratong as well, the so quiet holiday have now become a reason for drinking and rumbling around.

The holiday should be quiet and a family thing has in many places in Thailand turned in to be a family tragedy with many people loosing eyes and limbs to firecrackers.

I wish the Thais could keep the old holidays the way they should suppose to be like the Songkran (water festival) have turned into a water war and people are fleeing to safer ground (me included). People die in 1000 from driving drunk and from getting ice cubs in the face when they drive motorbikes.

Lets see if this New Year and Christmas will be any different with the election coming up the 23 of December.

I celebrated my Thailand Loy Kratong by flushing down old girl friends in the toilet. Maybe not the best way to do it but then I always been a party crasher. The story of origin for this beautiful feast in Thailand is many. Some say it is to celebrate the pagoda contains Lord Buddha’s topknot now in heaven. The most popular version is it was an expression of gratitude to the goddess of water ‘Phra Mae Kongka’ for having extensively used, and sometimes polluted, the water from the rivers and canals. And that is actually its own prediction because just 2 years ago people still floating horrific gigantic plastic kratongs that would kill animals and pollute the river even more. You can imagine more then 10 million people or more putting a floating plastic raft in the river. This all ended 2 years ago when a smart lady start baking her own kratongs from bread that could float and be eaten by the fishes they will also sink fast enough not to set any boats and houses on fire near the river. This years problem was that the flooding will lead to kratongs actually will set roofs tops on fire since the water is so high.
Some doing Loy Kratong to get rid of there problems and misery so they put them in the kratongs and push them away in the river hoping for a better next year. That’s where my toilet flushing comes in. You can float a kratongs in any water like dams, swimming pool, sink and in my case a toilet.
