How to do a Thai Wai

How to do a Thai wai or what is a Thai wai?

The wai is the Thai greeting and show of respect, indicated by pressing your palms together near your chest some people bow but that’s not necessary if you do not feel like you want to show this person a lot of respect.

The Thai is not a unique thing many other countries do it but it is a graceful action practiced throughout Thailand. It plays a very important part in showing other people respect and is central to Thais way of living.

The wai can be very confusing, beuacase there is so many rules to foloow and if you wai to a person you can offend them by telling them that they are older. Many different parts of Thailand have different ways to Wai and who to wai.

Do not let people tell you that you should always wai, there is reason for not to wai like when you carrying something, just nod and that’s it. If just one hand is free then wai with hand it is totally ok.
In some website it’s said that Royalty need to wai but that is wrong even the king wais to the monk and most monks wai or say hello to in other ways at least.

Do not wai to right and left it just make you look stupid if you wai to all the waitress and staff you are going down to the level of them or some Thai people think like that. Just make a relax wai when you are casual and when you doing business or meet older people think more what you are doing when you wai.

There is more then one wai like for monks and kings but do not think about that to much you will do wrong anyway just relax and a normal wai will do fine. The higher you have your hands the more respect you show the other person.

I rather wai people now even they are from western countries I think the hot weather is a hazard for bacteria stuck in your hand. To be on the safe side I always wai to everyone. If you are in a big party one big wai to the room is enough there is no need to wai all 40 people.

Swizz man in Thailand risking 15 years in Prison and Swiss man in Thailand lost 14 000 $

Learn from the Swiss what NOT to do in Thailand.

A Swiss man age of 57 and we guess pretty intoxicated was arrested yesterday for spraying over the kings portrait in servral locations in North Thailand.

The Chang Mai police was alerter by the security staff that saw Jufer Oliver Rudolf on surveillance cameras spraying portrait of the King of Thailand with a black spray.

He was detained Wednesday night and faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted, the police said.

The military junta that made the coup this year is also questioning Rudolf because they think someone that want to create trouble paid him to do it.

We guess Rudolf going to have a very red bum this Christmas in Thai prison.
Spraying the His Majesty the Kings portrait a few days after HMK birthday will not make him the most popular cellmate if he survives one night that is.

A Swiss man forgot 500 000 THB ($14 300) in the taxi coming from the Airport.

How this Swiss man could forget that much money and what he was doing with it anyway we do not know. But thanks to a honest Thai man that took the Taxi after the stupid man he got his money back. The stupid Swiss man gave the honest Thai man 20 000 THB in a thank you gesture. He will also be suggested for the honest man of the year award.

The stupid Swiss man will not get the most stupid of the year award because Rudolf have already got it by knockout.

Do’s and Don’t in Thailand part 1 The royal family

In our effort to teach you some manners and how to behave when in Thailand we listed some easy rules that the Tourism in Thailand has given out (TIT). We will start off with the Royal family since yesterday it was HMK 79 Birthday (5 December).

From TIT: The Monarchy : Thai people have a deep, traditional reverence for the Royal Family, and a visitor should be careful to show respect for the King, the Queen and the Royal Children.

This includes waiting to walk or cross the street if there motor caravan is coming. Your BTS also have to stop if they passing under you. Do not try to joke about and walk anyway you can get arrested or even shoot it have happened. The people that shot you will be declared hero’s and if you survive will put in front page of the magazine and arrested. Please also remember to stand up when in a cinema before the movie start, just follow everyone else. And if you happen to be in a park around 18.00 just stay still until the music stops.
We at Personal Thailand LOVE THE KING.
