MICT Thailand censures big international websites

How much privacy do you really have when you surf the internet in Thailand? After some website we checked went very slow we decided to check Yahoo, CNN, Facebook, YouTube and few other sites and all have the same thing you can see on the bottom of this video below.

MICT is inside your internet browser basically and can see whatever information you sending. So if you are uploading some holiday pictures on the YouTube and using your Gmail account as long in the chance is that the Thai government now knows your password as well.

The Thai governments are apparently tying to stop people or pirates from downloading CD and DVD covers in an effort to stop piracy in Thailand.

The question is how much privacy do you want to sacrifice to stop piracy?

How many more websites will the Thai government sneak into instead of just blocking?

See the video below in the left corner but the video is not complete but it we did not want to make a bigger video.

Thai Immigration have virus

According to Thai Visa some internet websites was blocked in Thailand this week. The following websites was according to the Thai Visa forum blocked

Yahoo

CNN

Facebook

This off course prompted half of Thailand to go check these websites out and probably caused the website to slow down from Thailand.

Then after people calmed down and starting to surf normally nobody could find any trace of any block expect the moderators on the Thai Visa forums they insisted there was a block.

Thailand have also supposedly got a faster internet connection, that is Thailand has got it but not the users. For more information about that you can visit http://www.asia-america-gateway.com/

On a more serious note the Thai Immigration website in Thailand have viruses and should not be clicked on. If you ask Google and Firefox why it is a big warning for this website you will get this answer.

List of blocked url in Thailand

I got hold of the blocked sites in Thailand. It is not really a secret but I have not seen the new once. Most of the sites from 2007 are unblocked already since it is not really a risk to the countries security it is more adult material.

The last government was on a moral crusade but the current government is more interested to preserve the monarchy then save us from adult websites. I think that is a good move people should be able to visit what ever websites they want.

The current governments do not block all pages in site they pick the pages that are a risk and leave the rest of the site unblocked, also a very good move.

It is for example very stupid to block Youtube.com just because one video is considered a risk.

Website blocked by South Korea in Thailand

We got an email from one of our readers in Pattaya. He wrote

“my connection to adult friend finder website was blocked for 1 hour by the Korean Police website http://warning.or.kr/ you heard of anything like this?”

We checked the website in questions and could find that some kid of block was in place if you logged in. But it was not the Thai government that stopped the website it was the Korean.

Since we are sharing internet lines with Korea their block might roll over to Thailand.

Some providers like True in Bangkok are still blocking adult friend finder but CAT and ToT does not. The website is not on the block list from the Thai government.
