Dangers driving in Thailand

The Dangers you face driving in Thailand

After having my driver license since Christmas I see the dangers with driving in Thailand from a very clear view.

For example

  • Drivers seldom use the light when turning.
  • After 02.00 at night the traffic is with no law.
  • Drivers drink and drive all the time.
  • Most drivers do not have a clue about traffic laws.
  • People drive with aggression and they are rude leading to problems.

I have many friends that give different drivers the finger; they honk and are rude in other ways to other drivers. This behavior can lead to that the other driver will stop traffic and bring out a gun, knife, or something else they have in the car. I have listed many such occasions in this blog were drivers were killed for just for being rude to others.

The reason why I bring this up is because last week a German man was killed by some Thai teens on a motorbike, they cut in front of him and he gave them the finger. It resulted in a numbers stab wounds and an early death.

He had made Phuket his second home and I am sure he never thought that when he took the car out for a drive on the Phuket road he would end up dead.

It happens to Thai off course every day not only to foreigners, in the Thai magazines last month some taxi meter drivers and motorbike gang went amok in Bangkok because of the same thing. You also have the high profile drama when the son of the former Miss Thailand killed innocent people after being rude to a green bus driver.

In traffic most Thais are far for the tranquil Buddhists they are supposed to be and they turn out to be very selfish.

But you do not have to follow other people example, head out in good time, enjoy your driving, let people pass before you; don’t honk if no danger and drive with peace in mind knowing that the baseball bat under the seat may save your life one day.

Long pants needed for driving license in Thailand

Apparently you can not have short pants and take a driving license in Thailand. Well men can have short pants but women can not even if they not are “hot pants” but just normal once.

My friend went to take the driving test at Pattaya and believe me she is no bar girl and she does not look like one either. At 06.00 they are suppose to be there and sign papers and give documents and after she waited to 09.20 they told her that she could not take the test with short pants. They also told her that the next class will start at 09.50 and if she not has any longer pants she had to come back next Tuesday.

Luckily for her she had a friend that could come and give her the pants that she needed for the driving license.

So if you are a girl and want to take a driving license in Thailand please long pants to the list of thing you need to bring.

Driving your car will be very expensive in Thailand

Do not think to by petrol or diesel car just yet. The price of petrol will probably hit 40 THB per liter by the end of May month. It not much we can do to stop it because the mass transit system are way to delayed and there is not enough natural gas station in place.

The government could easily help people by stop the “tuk tuk” in for example Phuket and Pattaya to charge overprices and make proper routs.
Because of the high prices people are buying their own cars or motorbike instead of going with others on the “tuk tuks”

They should also give companies and private company’s money to install Natural gas on cars. The petrol stations are should soon get money for installing Natrual gas on the sation but it is way to late.

The government should also help the solar energy movement in Thailand. We have so much sun and so much free energy to take from it. Government could easily help people with loans and money to built solar power for their village or towns.

Be smart stay inside during Thai New Year

The water war has begun in Bangkok and the first day over 45 people died and over 500 people injured. The police is expecting 900 000 people to trying to get out of Bangkok and if you are trying to then forget the buss and trains they are full.

Plan your travel well if you have to travel do not try to come back to Bangkok in the next week since the roads will be packed as well.

If you are stuck in Bangkok enjoy the silence and almost traffic free streets and the water fun in Kosan road or Silom road.

Do not become a number in the statistic and play it safe in the traffic during this deadly holiday.
