March 1st, 2008 — Chon Buri, Pattaya, Robbery
My illusion about Thailand as a safe country was broken last Sunday when I was on my way the bus.
Riding on the back of a motorbike taxi at 09.00 in the morning with the clean air and the new set sun shining I was having a good time in Pattaya Thailand.
Suddenly I felt someone reach out and grab my gold chain around my neck. I started to scream and pull back and after a few seconds the thief’s let go. It was 2 boys on a motorbike that I guess spotted me on some red light and wanted to make some quick money. I am sure someone else had to suffer the same morning. It is so dangerous to do this kind of things, they can fall or and I can fall of the motorbike. Just for some stupid money that will go to drugs.
The motorbike taxi wanted to go after them but I said to him to go away from there I did not loose anything and I did not want to miss my buss. I just had some bruise on my neck but otherwise I was mostly shaken in my mind I can still not believe it happens. 8 years in Thailand and nothing like this have happened to me before.
From what I understand this happens all the time in Pattaya and people are told not to wear chains at all.
December 10th, 2007 — Crimes, Robbery, South Thailand, Surat Thani
A Russian female has been arrested on Saumi full moon party after she was accused of stealing wallets and other valuable from other tourists. She deny this and say the boys that she was with at the time of the arrest have stolen the wallets, something the Thai police did not belive.
Natalia Ivanova from the Siberian city of Irkutsk was not released on bail since the judge thought she will try to escape home.
She will be held in prison until the trial with other suspects from the same arrest.
The Samui prison in south Thailand is notorious for its poor conditions and most people spending time there has done something related to drugs.
September 23rd, 2007 — Crimes, Murder, Phuket, Robbery
After the Tsunami and the recent flight crash Phuket is heading more down. It is amazing to see that the big developers just keep on saying that Phuket is booming. People are doing very bad business only the high season gives money to the bars and restaurants. Pattaya has got upswing but Phuket is still down.
The recently safe Phuket was not hit by another incident a man from Norway living in Phuket south Thailand was killed in a robbery. He had a Thai wife and been living in Phuket for many years.
Hopefully the Phuket Police will soon clear it up but I have my doubts. My thoughts go out to his friend and family in Norway and Thailand.

Monday duty hunt the neighborhood for thieves
I was home and working at Monday night at 02.00 at night when I heard a small “crack” outside my window. I did not think about it that much because I have dogs running around outside. But after 10 min I went in to the bedroom to look some TV and I heard another “crack”.
I tried to look at the house next to mine that is a smaller house/office but it was dark and I know they do not live there. I took on some clothing and went out and look outside but nothing indicated that they had a break in. I went back and look from the Balcony and I could swear I could hear some voices mumble and a cigarette smoke from some where close to me.
I went to look for a flashlight in my house and I found one and went out and start flashing inside the office fences but everything looks ok. Still there was something bugging me and I called the landlord. She was asleep and she said nothing to worry about.
I was not convinced and went to get a chair and peaked over the high wall. Inside I could see one of the windows open and the fence removed. That’s it I thought some one is in there and I called the landlord one more time and she said ok I will call the police.
I waited a few min outside my house quit and suddenly a Thai guy came jumping over the wall. I flashed him with the light and he said in Thai
“What are you doing this is my friends house”
I said in English “yeah right stop right now”
He did not stop and walking to me and I took up my Police stick and hold it high and he got scared and start run and I hit him over the arm.
I did not have any shoes but I followed him a few min screaming “STOP HIM” but all I can see was people closing the doors as we came running past, thanks.
When he start running in to Klong Toi the slum area of Bangkok I stopped and went back and called the landlord one more time
“Are you going to call the Police now?”
She finally woke up and called and I followed with some of the Police officers around to look for the thief but he was gone. The police actually came very quick I was very surprised to bad my landlord was not that quick.
The owner of the house said thanks the next day even if I expected something more like a cake or something. But this is Thailand so I guess I build on my Karma or something.
I recon it’s an inside job and one of their messengers look like the guy; he actually looks like Paragon the famous Thai tennis player. I will have a look at him next week and let you know if we manage to catch him.
I also two new Thai words “jab Kamoiy” basically catch the thief it can be good to know next time I am out running after them.
