Chilly weather hangs over Ubon Ratchathani, prompting workers at the province's zoo to do their best to keep the animals from falling ill.
Zookeepers have been seen leaving piles of hay at several spots in the zoo so the deer could sleep on it. During the night, lights are turned on at certain spots to give warmth to animals, especially the meerkats at the minizoo. Inside the section of the white lion, a wooden structure has been erected from the floor and covered with cushioning material so the lion could sleep on it instead of on the cold concrete floor. For cold-blooded animals that include snakes and turtles, zookeepers are either leaving lights on in their compartments or bringing them out to bask in the sun during the day.
