Government spokesman Teerat Ratanasevi has revealed that the number of unemployment in August fell by 38,000 persons from July's, leaving 355,000 without jobs; however, the number of the jobless has increased to 317,000, an increase of 97,000 from the 220,000 reported during the same period last year.///

Currently, out of the country's 39.3 million strong workforce, 38.9 million are gainfully employed, nearly 320,000 are unemployed, and 40,000 are waiting for the next employment season. The unemployment rate is 0.8 per cent of the total workforce.

However, compared to the same period last year, the number of Thai workforce has decreased from the 39.8 million reported in 2012. The report came from the National Statistics Office.
