The government is inviting all Thais to the “OTOP Health and Herbs 2013 Fair,” currently held at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. The fair will be held until Monday, October 28th.

During “PM Yingluck Meets the People” program on NBT, Director-General of the Department of Community Development Kwanchai Wongnitikorn has invited all Thais to the event where they will find a number of quality OTOP products such as Chaiyaphum’s “smile rice,” which drew great interest from Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra herself when she joined the fair on its opening day. According to the director, “smile rice” is a government’s organic agriculture project which turns local wisdom into an added-value product.

Other OTOP products included in the fair are Chumphon’s civet coffee, oolong tea, and other health products. Some booths also provide free health checkups for the visitors.

Instead of using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, organic agriculture relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost and biological pest control.

The OTOP Health & Herb 2013 Fair seeks to further develop OTOP products and increase consumer access to high-quality health-related goods at affordable prices. The event also helps expand channels of distribution for OTOP entrepreneurs and promotes Thai wisdoms.
