Public prosecutors have pressed treason charges against leaders of the 2008 protests by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

At the Office of the Attorney-General on Thursday, the prosecutors decided treason charges against nine anti-government PAD leaders, including Maj.Gen.Chamlong Srimuang and Sonthi Limthongkul. The nine people were accused of persuading more than ten people to breach the country’s laws.

The PAD’s lawyer Chanthapong Sabanatina traveled to the court on the same day to request the prosecutors to postpone a court summon for the nine people. The prosecutors later accepted the request and rescheduled their meeting with the accused on 27 September.

The accused were having problem finding property to be used as bail and might ask for a second postponement, the lawyer said.
