Lightning Caused the Blackout in the South

The blackout last week in the 14 Southern provinces was caused by a lightning accident at a transmission tower, as assured by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

The EGAT inspected the damages at the transmission tower in Phetchaburi Province and will add more power cables to help with electricity transmission in order to cope with rising power demand in the southern region, which is estimated to grow 6 percent per year. They are also planning to continue constructing the new power plants as for the country's Power Development Plan 2010.
