The preparation for Bangkok World Book Capital 2013, to be held from April 21-23, 2013, is now underway; with an aim to encourage Thai people to read 10-15 more books a year.

According to Bangkok's Deputy Permanent Secretary Ninnat Chalitanon, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has chosen Bangkok as the world book capital for this year, given the city's effort to encourage reading among people of all socioeconomic levels.

Activities have been held to promote the habit of reading among the population. Through a continuous effort to encourage it, reading will eventually become part of the Thai culture, said the Deputy Permanent Secretary.
