Governor of Chanthaburi Surachai Khan-arsa has expressed confidence that the ongoing oral hearings in the Phra Viharn Temple case and the ruling of the International Court of Justice afterwards will not affect the atmosphere in the province’s border zones.

Mr Surachai said the Chanthaburi provincial administration had not prepared any measures to handle possible border tensions in Pong Nam Ron district after the World Court read the verdict on the Phra Viharn Temple case. He confirmed that the relationship between Thai and Cambodian residents in the border zones would remain on good terms and local officials of the two countries would be able to cooperate to solve arising problems together regardless of the case’s outcome.

The situation on the Thai-Cambodian border in Pong Nam Ron has reportedly been normal. Both Thai and Cambodian people still cross the border to trade goods and celebrate the Songkran Festival together.
