Thai's Spend More During Valentine's Day

A survey by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) reveals that Valentine’s Day spending this year is expected to increase to 3.2 billion baht, the highest in the past five years.

Director of UTCC’s Center for Economic and Business Forecasting Thanawat Polwichai said teenagers account for the largest percentage of respondents who attach greater importance to the special occasion. Over 60 percent of those surveyed said they planned to celebrate Valentine’s this year.

The majority also stated that they are poised to splurge at restaurants, cinemas and sweets shops. The survey suggested that the boosted consumer sentiment prompts spending to expand by nearly 15 percent to over 3 billion baht.

Out of the total spending to be circulated during the upcoming Valentine’s Day, 57.6 percent is predicted to use their savings to purchase goods, while 37.6 percent will rely solely on their salaries.
