The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will soon launch “Redeem Travel Fair 2012,” to encourage credit card users to redeem their points to travel in Thailand, especially during low-season.

TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni announced that the TAT and six local banks will organize the Redeem Travel Fair 2012 during September 14-16 at Siam Paragon Shopping Mall.

Credit card customers of Kasikornbank, Bangkok Bank, Citibank, Standard Chartered, UOB, and Thanachart Bank will be able to redeem their points earned from credit card usage for hotel packages, air tickets, rental cars, or restaurant deals at the Point Plus Play Center or www.redeemtravelfair.com. The redemption on the website will begin on September 17th and run until the 30th.

Mr Suraphon expected that the campaign will help boost low-season traveling this September and October. With around 5 million credit card customers of the 6 banks, the TAT anticipated at least 100,000 visitors at the fair, generating 200 million baht to the tourism industry.

The TAT governor said this is the first fair of its kind in Asia where credit card customers are able to use accumulated points on their cards to buy travel deals and services.

In the mean time, Mr Suraphon stated that the number of foreign tourists in the first seven months of this year rose 8% year-on-year. As the last quarter of the year is the high season, he expected an even livelier tourism atmosphere, resulting in at least 20 million foreign visitors for the whole year.

The governor is confident Thailand is among the most popular destinations in the world because of its cost-worthiness.
