To promote the country as the center for medical services, the Public Health Ministry is holding the Thailand Medical Hub Expo 2012.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday presided over the opening ceremony of the Thailand Medical Hub Expo 2012, which is held to show the world Thailand’s potential in medical and health services as well as its readiness to be the regional medical hub.

The Public Health Ministry has been supporting medical tourism in Thailand by promoting Thai massage, spa, and herbs, among other things. To send the message to the world, 641 traditional Thai massage therapists give simultaneous massage for 12 minutes to break the Guinness World Record.

Ms Yingluck said the government has policies to uplift and provide universal health coverage to all Thais and will extend the service to foreigners as well, as part of the plan to become the medical hub. She said Thailand has the highest number of internationally-certified hospitals in Asia, while 33 spas are considered world-class.

The Thailand Medical Hub Expo 2012 is being held at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani from August 30 to September 2.
