The first time of Dusit Zoo in Bangkok successfully bred 18 Geochelone Sulcata or African Spurred Tortoises, the third largest species of tortoise in the world.

The newly bred Sulcata tortoises are now one month old and being nursed in enclosures. There are 26 more eggs in incubators at Dusit Zoo.

The Sulcata Turtoise can each grow to 36 inch long and can weigh up to 100 kg. The lifespan of the African Spurred Tortoise is about 30-50 years, or even much longer.

Dusit Zoo plans to continue breeding the African Spurred Tortoise in its preservation project and to share with other zoos in the country.
