Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has indicated that the 2013 Appropriation Act focuses on implementing urgent policies and establishing foundations for Thailand’s sustainable development.

A House session on Monday deliberated on the 2013 Appropriation Act draft worth 2.4 trillion baht, increasing from last year by 20 billion baht. 1.9 trillion baht of the appropriation is set for running expenses, 449 billion baht for investment and 94 billion baht for principal repayment. The Administration has planned to run a budget deficit of 300 billion baht.

The PM elaborated that the government had opted for a budget deficit due to economic risk factors from both inside and outside the country. She said the appropriation had been planned in accordance with growth forecasts of 5.5-6.5% for this year and 4.0-5.0% for 2013. The premier added that the budget deficit for the fiscal year 2013 would enable the government to run a budget surplus in the future.
