Thailand has been awarded the Best Tourist Country in 2012 by a Norwegian travel magazine, and Thai Airways International as the Best Intercontinental Airline Operate from Norway, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Mrs. Nalinee Pananon, Director of the TAT Stockholm Office, has revealed that Travel News Magazine - a famous tourist business magazine in Scandinavia - held its award presenting ceremony for 2012 at Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Oslo, Norway. At the ceremony, Thailand was awarded the Best Tourist Country of the Norwegian tourism in 2012. This is the ninth consecutive year for the country to receive the award. Thai Airways International – the national airline of Thailand – also received the Best Intercontinental Airline Operate from Norway Award, for the eighth consecutive year.

Mrs. Nalinee said that Norway was the country whose number of tourists travelling to Thailand is high when compared to its population of 4.2 million. Norway is also a valuable market for Thai tourism because of the long period of stay of up to 15 days on average that each Norwegian spends in Thailand. In addition, Norwegians are quality travelers who care about the environment and get involved with the local way of life and culture in each region. Most of the Norwegian visitors come to Thailand with their family and are seen to keep the trend from generation to generation. If Thailand is able to take care of the Norwegians well, Norway will be a sustainable tourist market and worth to invest in promoting Thailand’s tourism.
