With the Chinese New Year coming in a few days, Suvarnabhumi Airport has taken this opportunity to show the spirit of the festival by sending a team of airport staff wearing traditional Chinese costumes, to greet passengers arriving from China.

Suvarnabhumi Spokesperson Ms. Wilaiwan Nadwilai said the airport has been organizing a series of activities inside the passenger terminal to mark a seasonal occasion like the Chinese New Year. Passengers were given red bags containing oranges, a symbol of wealth and prosperity, upon their arrival.

Passengers were happy with the treat, the Spokesperson said, adding that around 176,000 visitors are expected to visit Thailand each day during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

More than 332 flights have been added to cater to a higher number of passengers during this period. 92% of the new flights are serving on domestic routes while the remaining 2% are on overseas routes. According to Ms. Wilaiwan, China Eastern Airline has the highest number of flights added en route to Thailand.

Following a tourism promotion fair in Beijing, China, in December last year, Ms. Wilaiwan anticipated more Chinese visitors to Thailand this year. Of all the passengers of the China Eastern Airline at Suvarnabhumi, Thais represent the largest group followed by those from China, Japan, India, South Korea and Russia.

Tourist handbooks in Chinese are also distributed to assist Chinese tourists. Airport staff members who are fluent in Chinese are also on standby to provide assistance whenever they are needed.
