Thai Airways International (THAI) launched two airplanes of Boeing 777-200 ER and Airbus A 340-600 to serve passengers on the Johannesburg- Moscow-Sydney-Athens and Dubai-Shanghai-Zurich-Sydney routes.

THAI President Piyasawas Amaranand stated that the religious ceremony were held today, chaired by the Lord Abbot of Chanasongkram Temple, for the two new airplanes. One is Boeing 777-200 ER named Phra Nakhon, for the use on the route of Johannesburg- Moscow-Sydney-Athens. It has 292 seats, divided into 30 seats for business class and 262 seats for economy class.

Another is Airbus A 340-600 named Chon Buri, serving on the route of Dubai-Shanghai-Zurich-Sydney. The Airbus contains 267 seats which are six for first class, 60 for business class and 199 seats for economy class. Both airplanes were named by His Majesty the King.

Mr Piyasawas added that THAI Board had approved the 15 airplanes procurement project with a budget of 79 billion THB. Those airplanes are seven Airbus A 330-300 and eight Boeing 777-300 ER to replace the existing airplanes used by THAI.
