Would you trust MICT as your Internet Provider in Thailand, and what site would blocked?

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has indicated that free wireless internet services will become available within the next three months as an urgent policy of the Government.

After handing down policies to various agencies under his ministry’s supervision, ICT Minister Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap pointed out that the policies comprised urgent ones to be implemented within the first year of the administration and regular ones to be implemented in four years.

According to the Minister, the free Wi-Fi policy, which is included in the urgent category, is expected to take shape within three months’ time. He said Thai people would initially be able to access the internet free of charge in public areas as well as at state offices and educational institutions and the services would be expanded to cover the entire country later on.

Meanwhile, the ICT Ministry is currently expediting the arrangement of the celebration for His Majesty the King’s 84th birthday anniversary this year as well as the improvement of the national disaster warning system and the suppression of lèse majesté websites. For the policy to hand out tablet PCs to students, the Ministry will be responsible for applications, knowledge base and internet network to support the operation of the devices.

Regarding the national broadband policy, which had been adopted by previous governments to provide people with affordable internet services, Gp Capt Anudith stated that it would be continued but with some adjustments in terms of its direction and implementation.
