BANGKOK, 9 May 2010 (NNT) – The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will be ready to operate on a trial basis on 15 May 2010.

There are totally 12 stations along the 15-kilometer distance on the Sathon-Ratchapruek line. Riding along the whole route will take only 30 minutes with the rapid buses available every 5-10 minutes. The BRT service will be available everyday from 6.00 to 24.00 hrs.

The service will be provided free of charge during the trial period from 15 May to 31 August 2010. After that, passengers will be charged at a flat rate of 10 THB until December 2010.

The fare will vary depending on the distance as from 2 January 2011 onwards, but will not be more than 20 THB for the whole distance.

Sunday’s test run reported no problems, except for some sections that are still under construction. Bangkok Deputy Governors, Dr Teerachon Manomaiphibul and MD Malinee Sukavejworakit, as well as other BMA executives were present on the test run.
