Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra has observed the trial run of the BTS Skytrain extension from On Nut to Bearing, which is scheduled to begin service on 12 August this year.

After participating in the test run of the On Nut-Bearing extension of the BTS Skytrain yesterday, MR Sukhumbhand pointed out that the new addition with a distance of 5.2 kilometers would help reduce the time and the cost of commute to the city for residents of the Bang Na area as well as the outlying Samut Prakan province.

According to the Governor, the extension is set to start its official operation on 12 August this year in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on the occasion of her birthday anniversary. Services will be initially provided free of charge from the opening day until 1 January 2012. For the convenience of the elderly and pregnant women, all BTS stations along the route have been equipped with elevators while the number of passengers is initially expected at 120,000 per day.

Furthermore, the Bangkok Governor said on 28 June he would follow up progress in the construction of the Taksin-Phetchakasem extension, which is slated to be launched in time for His Majesty the King’s birthday on 5 December 2012.
