The National Telecommunication Commission of Thailand (NTC) has insisted on proceeding with the 3G project throughout the country despite the ongoing political impasse.

NTC commissioner Natee Sukonrat, disclosed that the meeting of the independent body early this month resolved to form a committee to help push the project forward. Members of the committee come from the NTC, the government and private sectors, educational institutions and security and legal units. The working group is chaired by Mr Natee.

Regarding the project implementation, Mr Natee said that the meeting has set an operational guideline in which the NTC will publicize to all sectors the 3G technology and its necessity towards the society. The panel will then receive their comments on social and economic impacts. Thereafter, an evaluation will be made on the obtained information for use in the formulation of the next-stage direction. The process is expected to take two months to complete.

Mr Natee assured that the 3G project will proceed as planned and will not be delayed although the rally situation becomes tense. He said the NTC will not be affected by politics as long as it is not dissolved.
