Transport Minister Sopon Zarum has instructed staff members at Suvarnabhumi International Airport to work two-fold harder to ensure 100% safety for passengers during 2011 Songkran Festival.

Mr Sopon stated that Suvarnabhumi is considered the country’s image. All staff members and officials at the airport must therefore work integratedly, especially during Songkran Festival in order to boost passengers’ confidence that Suvarnabhumi is one of the best airports in the world.

The minister revealed that the number of passenger arrivals at the airport during the festival has already climbed up from 120,000 a day to 150,000. The figure is likely to be higher as some tourists are expected to change their destinations from Japan to Thailand after a series of natural disasters.

Meanwhile, Suvarnabhumi Airport General Manager Flying Officer Anirut Thanomkulbutra said security officers have been assigned to patrol inside and outside the terminal more frequently to ensure 100% safety for passengers.

Flying Officer Anirut added that the Airport has asked airlines to open check-in counters earlier than usual during the festival, to allow greater convenience for passengers. More immigration officers have also been arranged at passport control points while ‘Airport Ambassadors’ have been deployed to give advice and necessary assistance.
