The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is capping domestic mobile phone call charge at 99 satang per minute, beginning on January 1st, 2013.

According to NBTC member Prawit Leesatapornwongsa, mobile phone service providers will, starting January 1st, not be allowed to charge more than 99 satang per minute for all domestic calls. The fee is in accordance with the regulation issued in 2012. He said the fee was supposed to have been in effect since April 4th of 2012, but the mobile service operators were allowed to charge regular fees until the contracts with their clients expired; however, it must be no later than December 31st, 2012.

This regulation also takes promotional packages into account, meaning if fees for packages are higher than 99 satang per minute when calculated, it would mean that the mobile operators have violated the law. He also warned AIS and DTAC not to continue to offer promotional packages in violation of the law, or they would be prosecuted.
