The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has summoned DTAC to provide explanation on the network failure this morning, which had affected 130 million users across the country. NBTC Secretary Thakorn Tantasit said the NBTC sent an urgent letter to Total Access Communication Plc Ltd, commonly known as DTAC, asking the company to explain to the Commission how it came about. According to Mr. Thakorn, the provider could be fined up to 20-30 million baht given how frequent the incidence has occurred. This is the fifth time, he claimed, that DTAC mobile phone users have been unable to use their devices for communication for a certain amount of time. The NBTC has enforced a rule since 2001, which forces service providers to pay a fine of 20,000 baht per day for its inability to maintain services for all mobile phone users. Users are encouraged to file a complaint with the NBTC or the Office of the Consumer Protection Board.
