Thai International Airways (THAI) is preparing to sign an MoU with the Tiger Airways Holding Group, the company under Temasek Holding, a public company registered in Singapore’s stock market, to launch the national low cost airline “Thai Tiger”.

According to a report, THAI President Piyasawas Amaranand and his team of management has proposed a plan to launch the national low cost airline ‘Thai Tiger’ in Thailand, aimed to serve passengers in Asian countries within this October.

Thai Tiger low cost airline is a joint operation between THAI and Tiger Airways Holding. If THAI Board consents to the plan, the MoU between the two companies will be signed, while the flight will commence on 1 October 2010.

THAI has planned to hold shares in Thai Tiger by 51%, divided into the share of THAI itself at 49.5% and 1.5% of THAI employees’ welfare fund under prior capital investment of 100 million THB, and another 49% share owned by Singapore Airline and Ryan Air. Thai Tiger Managing Board has been set to have five representatives, three from THAI and 2 from Tiger Airways Holding.

Low cost airline ‘Thai Tiger’ will be launched with the hope to share a big piece of cake in Asian and Asia-Pacific markets, competing with the leading airline company Air Asia with a low cost airline network in four countries; Malaysia (headquarter), Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
